Scope and ContentManuscript volume containing a collection of notes and papers compiled by Craven Ord, [1810], relating to the coinage and offices of the Mint and Mint Assays, from the twelfth century onwards. Includes transcripts of material extracted from Thomas Madox The history and antiquities of the Exchequer of the Kings of England (London, 1711); medieval chancery rolls and early Exchequer records; an [eighteenth] century engraving of Mint officials at work, headed 'A part of the standard of weights and measures in the Exchequer, Anno 12 Henrici Septimi'; printed material including 'Copy of an Indenture made in 1469 between King Edward IV and William Lord Hastings, Master of the Mint...respecting the coinage in the Tower of London', Archaeologia, XV (1806).
Provenance: from the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps, 1st Baronet (1792-1872) as MS 9386. Bought by Herbert Somerton Foxwell at the Phillipps sale at Sotheby's, 19 Jun 1893.
Part of the Goldsmith's Library of Economic Literature, initially collected by Herbert Somerton Foxwell and presented by the Goldsmith's Company to the University of London in 1903.

Binding; 19th century calf with blind-tooled frame of chevrons surrounding concentric frame of blind-tooled double fillets followed by blind-tooled border of flourishes. Five raised bands on spine with blind-tooled double fillets on top and bottom of each band. Edge of board and interior edge of leather decorated with blind-tooled floriated design. Title of work blind-tooled on second spine compartment. Grey endpapers. Bound to 24.6 x 19.6 cm
