Her working life was spent in the Civil Service. She was an expert shorthand reporter and served on the British staff of several conferences in that capacity. These conferences included the Genoa International Economic Conference of 1921, and the London Naval Conference of 1930. She also worked on the Palestine commissions of the 1930s and the Ceylon Commission of 1944. She was awarded the MBE in 1946. She retired from the Treasury in 1961. NotesThe Ceylon Commission was set up in July 1944 to report on reform of the constitution of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). The members of the Commission arrived in Colombo on 22 December 1944. The Commission held twenty public sessions in Colombo between 22 January and 15 March 1945. The members of the Commission left Ceylon in April 1945. The Commission's conclusions were published in September 1945 (Ceylon: report of the commission of constitutional reform, HMSO, 1945).
