NotesThe Youths' Christian Institute (later known as the Young Men's Christian Institute) was founded by Quintin Hogg. It developed out of the Ragged Schools movement and began in Hanover Street, Covent Garden in 1875 before relocating seven years later to central London premises. These are now (2023) the University of Westmister, formerly Regent Street Polytechnic. A similar institute was established in another Hanover Street (later Highshore Road) in Peckham, c1880s.
