Scope and ContentThe material consists of various manuscript books which were deposited as part of Sir George Elvey's library. Some of this manuscript material reflects the Elvey family's connections and interests, as it contains music for use in church, and music written by people such as Highmore Skeats (MS944/5/1-8) and Dr William Crotch (MS944/4/3). The music contained within the manuscripts covers a wide spectrum, including songs, music for piano, orchestral works, pieces for the organ, choral works for use in church, and chamber music. The books which belonged to Stephen Elvey (MS944/2/1-3) are of interest because they contain copies of some little known pieces. The printed books contained within the library are now in the care of the Music Department of Senate House Library.
