Scope and ContentSketching was a favourite hobby of Charles Booth. The travel diaries, sketchbooks and sketches form a partial record of his travels.
The contents are as follows:
(1) Travel diaries of Charles Booth's tour of the Middle East (1862).
(2-8) Sketchbooks of Charles Booth (1856-1893).
(9-132) Paintings and sketches of Charles Booth (1852-1884).
The sketches are mainly by Charles Booth (although some are probably the work of Mary Catherine Booth); many are signed with a monogram C B or C J B or C J Booth. Some are unsigned, especially the sketches before 1859. The largest group of sketches dates from 1862 and complements the diaries of the Middle Eastern tour.
