Scope and ContentCorrespondence between Duckworth's, their authors, other publishers and the public. The correspondence includes offers of manuscripts, discussions with authors about their works, concerns about libel, discussions with other publishers about business, offers of books to newspapers for review and requests for copies of books for review. There is also correspondence relating to the firm's premises in Henrietta Street. The correspondence from the years 1939-1945 include references to the paper shortage, foreign authors who have been interned, the absence of staff on war work, bomb damage and fire watching and correspondence with the Ministry of Information relating to permission to publish., There is a gap in the general correspondence between 1941 and 1942, which is partially filled by the correspondence originally filed as "miscellaneous" for 1942, at MS959/9/4-5.
