Scope and ContentAudio recording of interview carried out by Charmian Brinson on behalf of the Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies with Hannah Norbert-Miller. It concerns her early life in Austria, where she trained at the Reinhardt Seminar, Vienna, and performed in several theatres including in Vienna and Innsbruck; a period in Paris in 1938-39, having failed to gain entry to the UK; and her experiences as an exile in the UK, where she performed at the Austrian exile theatre, the Laterndl, worked for the BBC and married the Austrian exile actor, Martin Miller. The original recording was made on a cassette tape (tape 19). The total recording time is around 85 minutes. There is a typescript transcription of the interview. A digitised copy of the recordings was created in 2011-2012, and an access copy is available on a CD. The tape was previously in EXS/box7/1; the papers were previously in EXS/box9/1 and EXS/box11/2.
Conditions governing accessOnly the transcript is currently available to researchers. At least 48 hours' notice is required for research visits. Researchers may access the transcripts without first gaining consent from the RCGAES Committee.
