TitleDiary
Reference codeMS682/19
Datec.1785-1816
Scope and ContentAttributed to Anne Rushout.
The following was kindly compiled and provided by Anne Strathie who was investigating who the true author of each volume was (06.12.2021).
"With bookplate ‘Honourable Anne Rushout’ (similar style to one affixed to George Bowles’ journal at Yale). Many different handwritings, with poems, etc., rather than journal. Includes items attributed to Warren Hastings (neighbour to Anne’s sister Harriet Rushout/ Cockerell of Sezincote) and Caroline Vernon (distant family connection) and an 1807 poem by Lord Byron about Harrow (where Northwicks had property). The number of blank pages and wide date span (c.1785-1844) suggests a commonplace book rather than a diary. Assuming this is by Anne Rushout she may have given it to her Rushout-Bowles nieces to introduce them to the idea of a commonplace book (of which she created several). The bookplate and more orderly handwriting/entries suggest this may be different ownership than the bulk of other MS682 books."
