He worked at two more newspapers before he had to flee Nazi Germany. He arrived in Britain in 1937 and initially stayed at ‘Four Ashes’ in Dorridge, Warwickshire. He was interned in 1940, when he met Georg Weys, and they were both deported to Canada. On his return in 1941 von Einsiedel became cultural editor for the German exile paper ‘Die Zeitung’. After the war he worked at the Ministry of Information for ‘Blick in die Welt’ a paper for the British Zone in occupied Germany. Von Einsiedel returned to Germany in 1956 and became co-editor of ‘Kindlers Literatur Lexikon’ the biggest encyclopaedia on literature in the German language. Scope and ContentThe Papers consist mainly of letters written by Wolfgng von Einsiedel to Georg Weys between 1941 until his death in 1967. The two men met in the Huyten internment camp and were both deported to Canada. During this time they developed a close relationship. The letters trace the development of their lives and friendship and give a flavour of cultural life in wartime London. Also included in the collection is a scrapbook of articles by von Einsiedel written for the German exile newspaper 'Die Zeitung', some photographs, and Georg Weys’ memories as recorded by his daughter Arun Weys. An additional folder of letters written by the sculptor Willi Soukop was donated a few years later. Conditions governing accessOpen. At least 48 hours' notice is required for research visits.
