It was at Oxford that Stock became involved in the anti-war movement and began a lasting friendship with Jomo Kenyatta. Her academic career was notable for its peripatetic character. From 1926 she worked as a WEA tutor and then lectured at Bingley College and Goldsmiths College. In 1948 she moved to what was then East Pakistan to become the Chair of English at Dacca University. She was successively Reader of English at the University of the Punjab, Chair of English at the University of Calcutta, and in 1963 she moved to the University of Rajasthan. She was Professor of English at Makerere University College, Uganda from 1965-68. Stock interrupted her retirement in the early 1970s for another spell at the University of Dacca before she retired in September 1974. Among her publications was the book "W. B. Yeats: his poetry and thought". Scope and ContentIncludes correspondence, especially with and in relation to Jomo Kenyatta; biographical and autobiographical accounts of AGS's life, including draft typescript of 'Taking what comes: a biography of A.G.Stock' by Basil Clarke (1999) and correspondence relating to it; divorce papers; typescripts of articles by AGS - subjects include the struggle in the 1930s for Indian independence; formal written farewell address from the University of Dacca,1974.
