Heinz Post was a 20th-century philosopher of science who founded the "Chelsea School," specializing in the relationship between scientific theories. Born Heinrich Rudolf Paneth in Vienna to Fritz Paneth and Elsa Paneth nee Hartmann, Post came to London with his family when Hitler came to power in Germany in 1933. He attended St Paul’s School in London followed by Trinity College Oxford, during which time he was interned for six months from June 1940. From 1943 to 1946 Post worked at the British Atomic Energy Project in Montreal, Canada. He received his PhD at the University of Chicago in 1950 before returning to the UK to work as a research fellow in physics. At some time before 1965 he changed his surname from Paneth to Post. Post met his wife Janet Ramage at the Chelsea College of Science and Technology where he set up the department for the history of the philosophy of science. Post was appointed to the Chair of Philosophy of Natural Science at the University of London in 1978.
