Scope and ContentThis file contains 10 black and white photographs of a production of "Der unsterbliche Schwejk" ("The Eternal Schwejk") by the Austrian exile theatre company, Das Laterndl. The play was an adaptation of Jaroslav Hašek's novel "The Good Soldier Švejk" by Laterndl writers Albert Fuchs, Franz Hartl, Hugo F. Königsgarten and Rudolf Spitz. The sketch was staged at the Laterndl's venue at 69 Eton Avenue, Swiss Cottage, London, premièring in March 1940. There is one photograph of a rehearsal, which shows Martin Miller, the director, surrounded by three members of the cast (1 print), and four photographs of the cast in action on the stage, showing the actors Martin Miller (as Schwejk), Fritz Schrecker, Peter Preses, Marianne Walla, Jaro Klüger and others. Some of the prints are duplicate.
